Neurological Diseases and Oral Health: The Need for Customized Care
Neli Gontier, BSc., RDH., Cert. Ad. Ed

Neli Gontier is a key opinion leader and facilitator with many years of experience as a dental clinician, educator, practice management consultant and corporate manager. She is currently an Education & Training Specialist for a national non-profit and a Senior Trainer/Facilitator for CSPN and their international corporate clients. Her talks and webinars on biofilms, oral diseases, infection control and other relevant topics have been very well received by numerous dental societies and associations, including the CDHA, for many years.

Pharmacology of Systemic Disorders – Is it Relevant for Oral Health?
Dr. A. Jose Lança, MD., PhD

Dr. Lança is an assistant professor of pharmacology, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Medicine, U of T, where he has been the undergraduate program director in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Medicine. His areas of research include neuropharmacology, pharmacology of alcoholism and drug addiction and herbal medications.

Update in Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Brett Saltzman, BA., DDS., MSc., Paed Dent FRCD(C)

Dr. Brett Saltzman is a Paediatric Dentist in central Toronto. Currently he practices at Forest Hill Children’s Dentistry and previously spent many years teaching at the University of Toronto. In his earlier role as an Assistant Professor and then Course Director for Pediatric Dentistry he both lectured and provided clinical training to undergraduate and post-graduate dental students alike. He also acted as the Pediatric Dentistry clinical coordinator for the joint Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Anaesthesia Surgicentre, a university-based facility that provides much needed dental care under general anaesthesia to children of all ages and backgrounds.  Finally, he also maintains a position of Associate Staff at Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Dentistry.

Increasing the Mental Health Competence of Dental Hygienists
Taryn Tang, PhD and Purple Yip, MDiv

Taryn Tang is co-founder and Director of Research & Evaluation at Two Wheels Training. She holds a PhD in Psychology and is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She has held academic research and management positions with teaching hospitals and community mental health organizations.

Purple Yip is co-founder and Director of Practice & Education at Two Wheels Training. She holds a Master of Theology in Counseling and is an Assistant Supervisor at Tyndale Counselling Services. She is a clinical fellow of AAMFT and OAMFT, and a Registered Psychotherapist working with individuals and families.

Peri-Implant Infection Management: The Role of the Dental Hygienist
Dr. Amy Yeung, DDS., MSc., Perio FRCD(C)

Dr. Amy Yeung is a board-certified Periodontist in Canada. Dr. Yeung received her dental degree at the University of Toronto where she received academic awards in the areas of radiology, prosthodontics and periodontology. During her dental studies she was also awarded the Pierre Fauchard Academy Research award in the CDA/Dentsply Student Clinician Program and selected to represent Canada at international conferences.

Dr. Yeung completed a hospital residency at the Mount Sinai Hospital where she received additional training in areas of oral facial pain, dentistry for persons with disabilities and medically compromised, oral surgery and oral pathology. Dr. Yeung then completed the Graduate Program in Periodontics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Yeung’s research interests include how systemic diseases impact healing.
Dr. Yeung also has a personal interest in mentoring and helping others and is constantly researching ways to help individuals achieved their goals, whether it’s her patients or dental colleagues.

Linda McLarty is Director of Education for Germiphene Corporation, a Canadian manufacturer of infection prevention and control products and dental pharmaceuticals.  With over 25 years of experience, Linda provides current and up to date information upon which decisions can be made to establish infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
